Who?

How do you become a PR who gets noticed? By acheiving results right?

It doesn’t matter whether you are in a small marketing team, leading a team, doing PR for yourself or trying to get noticed at an agency, the goal is to make you stand out.

What?

This show is all about becoming a PR ‘ninja’. Sorry about the word “ninja” but I think it sums up the show’s aim.

The goal is to help every listener get noticed for being responsible for giant killing results. So this is not a show about theory (although they’ll be plenty) it’s about sharing practical first hand PR ideas that are being tested on the frontline this very week.

Host?

Richard Midson has 25 years of comms experience in different spheres. He was a news editor, broadcaster, host of London’s only live all-news drivetime radio show for several years, a public relations officer in European politics and social media creator of a niche show that gained over 1.6 million views.

But, he doesn’t claim to hold all the answers. There is no one way of doing PR which is why this show is about hunting down giant killing techniques anyone can use.

IS THIS SHOW A BUSINESS?

The Public Relations Podcast is not a business but a passion project of former PR, journalist, broadcaster and news editor, Richard Midson. He’s not allowed to charge for any service due to his current day job. It was created out of his wish to help people achieve better results and have more fun. Because it’s not a business, there are going to be “rough edges”. There aren’t enough hours in the day.

What does the show believe?

PRINCIPLE 1 – Public relations has changed

It’s no longer good enough to send out a press release and say you’ve built a “relationship” with the “public”.

It is no longer enough to send out a message repeatedly like traditional marketing and hope people will take it on board.

To achieve results today and stand out you need to have a two-way, emotional relationship with your customers.

Public Relations (what this show is all about) is about building that relationship.

This show does indeed cover traditional press relations because it’s still relevant but it also focuses on any frontline technique that could help you build that “emotional relationship” between your organisation and the “public”.

PRINCIPLE 2 – Public Relations people have never been MORE needed

Done right, modern public relations can turn the public into your greatest marketing team. It can turn customers or followers into your most loyal evangelists, who come back repeatedly because they love what you do. It can even turn people into advocates who become powerful allies when things go a little awry!

This show takes the view that it’s Public Relations people who best understand what is needed to build relationships and in turn are best placed to develop these new “public relationships” in the world today.

Yes, PR has changed but if you focus on relationship building, your skills in this show’s opinion have never been more needed.
